GAZIPUR: A court here on Wednesday granted bail to owner of 'Tampaco Foils' factory Syed Makbul Hossain and sent five people to jail upon surrender in a case filed over the deaths in a fire at the packaging factory in Tongi of Gazipur, reports UNB.
Gazipur District and Sessions Judge AKM Enamul Haque passed the order when six people, including Makbul, also a former BNP MP, surrendered before the court as per the High Court directives.
The five other accused are Makbul’s son Tanvir Ahmed, Tampaco general manager Shafiqur Raman, manager (admin) Monir Hossain, DMD Alamgir Hossain and manager Abul Hanif.
Earlier, on November 23, the High Court asked the factory owner and five others to surrender before a Gazipur court within a week.
Eight people, including Makbul, surrendered before the High Court seeking bail in a murder case filed over the inferno at the factory on November 21.
Thirty-nine people were killed and over 50 others injured as a devastating fire raged through 'Tampaco Foils' factory in Tongi BSCIC Industrial area in the early hours of September 10. Two cases were filed against 10 people with Tongi Police Station in connection with the incident.
