Asstt proctor suspended

Atiqur Rahman Raza, assistant proctor of Rajshahi University (RU), has been suspended temporarily for his alleged involvement in the abnormal death of Prof. Akter Jahan Jolly. He is also an assistant professor of the varsity's mass communication and journalism department.

The decision was taken at a syndicate meeting, headed by RU vice-chancellor Prof. Muhammed Mizanuddin, at the VC's lounge yesterday night. 
Also, a three-member probe committee has been formed to investigate allegations levelled against Prof. Tanveer Ahmed, former husband of Jolly and another teacher of the same department, in this connection. Prof. Sultanul Islam, director of the Institute of Environment Science (IES), is heading the committee, while two other members are Dr Mohd Nasim Reza Opu and Prof. Tanzima Zohra Habib. 
The RU authorities asked the probe committee to submit its report soon.
There have been allegations that Tanveer's sexual harassment of his ex-wife was the reason behind her unnatural death. 
On September 23, the academic committee of the mass communication and journalism department suspended Tanvir and his wife Soma Deb, who is also a teacher of this department, for five years from all academic activities.
