Drug peddler gets life

A court here yesterday sentenced a drug peddler to life imprisonment. 
The convict is Monwara Begum, 37, wife of Wahid Mia of Laxmipur village in Bhairab upazila. 
The court also fined the convict Tk 10,000, in default, six months more in jail.
According to the prosecution, a team of police from Bhairab Police Station arrested Monwara after conducting her house at Laxmipur village on January 9, 2012. Police seized 75 gram of heroin and cash money amounting Tk one lakh from her possession.
Snehashish Ray, sub-inspector of Bhairab Police Station filed a case. After investigation, police submitted chargesheet against Monwara and her husband. After examining records and witnesses District and Session Judge of Kishoreganj 2 no court Al Masud delivered the verdict.

2 Jamaat men held in Jessore
Benapole: Police arrested two activists of Jamaat-e-Islami along with bomb making materials from Deyapara School playground in Sadar upazila early yesterday, reports UNB.
The arrestees were identified as Khandaker Rafiqul Islam and Rabiul Islam,  both residents of the village.
Assistant Sub-inspector of Narendra police camp Ripon Miah said tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area while a group of Jamaat-Shibir activists were holding a secret meeting around 12.30am. Later, the law enforcers arrested the duo while others managed to flee the scene. They also recovered some crude bomb making materials from the spot.
A case was filed in this connection.

Firearms recovered 
Gopalganj: Police recovered one foreign pistol, one magazine and eight rounds of bullets from Bahara village in Muksudpur upazila on Tuesday night, reports UNB.
Officer-in-charge of Muksudpur Police Station Azizur Rahman said being  tipped off that Saiful, an alleged member of a robber gang, along with his accomplices was staying in the area, a team of police conducted a drive there around 10.00pm. 
Sensing danger, the robbers fled the scene, leaving one foreign pistol, one magazine and eight rounds of bullets. Later, the law enforcers recovered the firearms from the spot. Saiful was wanted in five cases filed for robbery, the OC added.

33 arrested in Satkhira
SATHKHIRA: Police, in special drives from Tuesday night to yesterday morning, arrested 33 persons on various charges from seven upazilas of the district, reports BSS.
During the drives, Satkhira Sadar police arrested 14 accused with 18 pieces of Yaba tablets, Kalaroa police three, Tala police four, Kaliganj police four, Shyamnagar police two, Assasuni police two, Patkelghata police one and Debhata police three accused.
Police said several cases, including charges of subversive activities, are pending with different police stations against the arrested persons.
The arrested were sent to jail yesterday morning.

Bholahat Freedom Fighters Complex inaugurated
CHAPAINAWABGANJ: Construction of Bholahat Freedom Fighters Complex was inaugurated on Tuesday, reports BSS.
Bholahat Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sharmin Yasmin inaugurated the construction as chief guest.
Among others, upazila commander of the freedom fighters Nurul Haque, freedom fighters Sirajul Islam, Ekram Hossain, Afsar Hossain, Nazrul Islam and government and non-government officials were present on the occasion. Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) is constructing the building at a cost of Tk 2 crore.

One held with 3-kg hemp
CHAPAINAWABGANJ: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-5 arrested a man with 3-kg of cannabis from a house at Omarpur village in Shibganj upazila on Tuesday afternoon, reports BSS.
The arrested was identified as Rubel Ali, 28, son of Md Rafiqul Islam of the area.
