Nine killed in road crashes

Nine people were kille in separate road accidents yesterday, report agencies.
In Brahmanbaria, four people were killed when a bus rammed an autorickshaw on Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Soshoi in Bijaynagar upazila.
The identities of the deceased are yet to be known.
The accident took place around 12:30 pm when the Dhaka-bound ‘Ena Paribahan’ bus from Sylhet hit the autorickshaw, leaving three people, including the autorickshaw driver, dead on the spot and one woman injured, said officer-in-charge of Bijaynagar Police Station Arshad Ali.
The injured woman was admitted to Madhabpur Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared her dead.
In Natore: A driver and helper of a truck were killed in a road accident in Kasikata Toll Plaza area on the Bonpara-Hatikumrul Highway in Baraigram upazila.
The deceased were identified as Babu, 35, and Shamim Hossain, 28, both hailed from Meherpur Sadar upazila.
Abdullah-Al-Mamun, OC of Bonpara highway police, said the accident occurred when a Natore-bound speeding covered van collided head-on with a Meherpur-bound truck on the highway, leaving Babu and Shamim dead on the spot.
Police seized the vehicles. A case was filed in this connection.
In Gopalganj, a motorcyclist was killed as his bike collided with a private car at Haridaspur Nimtala on Dhaka-Khulna Highway in Sadar upazila yesterday morning.
The deceased was identified as Anisur Rahman Sujan, 35, a resident of Haridaspur Paschimpara village.
Officer-in-charge of Gopalganj Sadar Police Station M Selim Reza said Sujan was going to his village riding his motorcycle in the morning. When he reached Nimtala, a private car, coming from the opposite direction hit the motorbike around 9am, leaving him injured.
The injured was taken to Gopalganj General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 11am, the OC added.
Our Jhenaidah correspondent says: A worker was killed and three others were injured as an earth-laden trolley turned turtle at Babubari village in Kaliganj upazila yesterday morning.
The deceased is Alamgir Hossain, 40, a resident of Khanjepur village of the upazila.
Police said the accident occurred when the trolley turned turtle beside a local road in the area as its driver lost control over the steering, leaving four workers injured. The injured were admitted to Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex where Alamgir succumbed to his injuries.
Our Tangail correspondent adds:  Hatem Ali, 94, father of Zoynal Abedin, Goplapur correspondent of The Daily Ittefaq, was killed and his mother Mazeda Begum, 75, was injured in a head-on collision between two buses at Royganj yesterday morning. President of Dhanbari Press Club Ansar Ali and Madhupur Press Club Golam Samdani condoled the death of Hatem Ali.
