Arrest warrant for Rana�s mother, 5 others

A Dhaka court yesterday issued a warrant for the arrest of six people, including Rana Plaza owner Sohel Rana’s mother, in a case filed for violating the building code under the Building Construction Act in connection with the garment factory collapse, reports UNB.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Shahinoor Rahman passed the order after accepting the chargesheet in the case.
The accused got arrest warrant are Rana’s mother Marjina Begum, chief executive officer of Savar municipality Uttam Kumer Roy, former engineer of Savar municipality Mahbubur Rahman, urban planner of the municipality Farzana Islam, Md Mahbubul Alam and Nantu Contractor.
The court asked Savar thana police to submit a report over their arrest by August 18.
Meanwhile, the court refused to take congnisance of the chargesheet in another case filed for killing people after the incident.
State Public Prosecutor Anwarul Kabir said the court denied accepting the chargesheet as names of four government officers were dropped from the chargesheet.
The court asked the investigation officer of the case to include the names of the four government officers in the chargesheet after taking approval from the Labour and the LGRD Ministry.
It fixed August 18 for issuing an order on the chargesheet in the murder case.
On June 1, over two years after the Rana Plaza tragedy, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police pressed charges against 42 people, including Rana Plaza owner Sohel Rana, in the two cases filed over the garment factory collapse that killed 1,129 people and injured 2,515 on April 24, 2013. Sohel Rana’s father Abdul Khalek and mother Marjina Begum and 12 government officials were among the charge-sheeted accused. Besides, 594 people were shown as witnesses in the killing case besides 135 in another case.
