The Ministry of Home Affairs had identified a Facebook page belonging to “Washim BD” for orchestrating the mayhem on Hindu households at Nasirnagar.
A Brahmanbaria court yesterday placed Jahangir Alam, one of the prime suspects, on a four-day remand after he was arrested late on Monday night from Kalaishripara in Brahmanbaria for his alleged connection with the attacks on Nasirnagar Hindus.
As had been suspected earlier, the attack on Hindus was orchestrated by some mastermind.
In a letter signed by the deputy secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Naeb Ali, which was sent to the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) yesterday, it was written that after investigating with the aid of different law enforcement quarters, the Facebook id of “Washim BD” had been identified.
The letter said that in the Facebok id, there were ample evidence of several edited pictures, which had derogatory elements about both Islam and Hindu religion.
Terming those pictures as potential “instigator” for the communal violence, the home ministry requested the telecom regulator to take immediate steps to identify the person behind the Facebook page.
It is to be noted that houses and temples of Hindus in Nasirnagar were attacked on October 30, based on the fabricated Facebook post from the account of Rasraj Das, 27, a fisherman of Nasirnagar. In two cases, 2,400 unidentified people were sued in this connection. Jahangir had gone into hiding after the incident.
According to witnesses, Jahangir was involved in printing copies of an image posted on the Facebook account of Rasraj Das at his Alamin Cyber Café at Horinber Bazar.
