7 ‘robbers’ held in Faridpur
Faridpur: Detectives arrested seven alleged robbers with bomb-like objects and sharp weapons in Komorpur area of the district town early yesterday, reports UNB.
The arrestees are:  Alamgir Hossain, 32, Matiur Rahman, 38, Delwar Khan, 35, Kuddus Khan, 30, Reazul Mollah, 33, Zafor Mollick, 30 and Tobir Khan, 28, hailing from different areas of the district.
On information that a gang of robbers was taking preparation to commit a robbery, a team of the Detective Branch (DB) of Police conducted a drive there and arrested them with bomb-like objects and sharp weapons.

10 shops gutted in Magura
MAGURA: At least 10 business establishments were gutted as a fire broke out at Alokdia Bazaar in Sadar upazila yesterday morning, reports BSS.
Fire service sources said the fire originated from an electric short circuit of a shop and soon engulfed the adjacent shops. Being informed fire fighters rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze with the help of local people.
No actual financial losses were so far known although shop owners claimed that the loss may surpass Tk 50 lakh.

Polythene trader fined 
FARIDPUR: An illegal polythene trader in Madhukhali upazila of the district was fined by a mobile court on Monday following seizure of a huge quantity of the banned item for the possession of the trader by members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-8, reports BSS.
According to official sources, acting on a ti-off, a RAB team led by ASP Humayun Kabir raided the house of polythene trader Lutfar Rahman at Garakhola village in Madhukhali upazila and recovered one tonnes of polythene. The RAB Rab team produced Lutfar Rahman before a mobile court. Then the court fined him Tk 40,000.

Man electrocuted 
Magura: A man was electrocuted in Monirampur village of Sadar upazila on Monday afternoon, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Mushak Mollah, 40, a resident of the same village. Dr Muktadir Rahman of Magura Medical Hospital said Mushak came in contact with a live electric wire while repairing a ceiling fan at his house.
Later, he was taken to Magura Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
An unnatural death (UD) case was filed in this connection.

Disaster management workshop in Faridpur

FARIDPUR: A day-long workshop on disaster management organised by local NGO Amra Kaj Kori (AKK) and aided by Christian Aid, Bangladesh was held on Monday in the conference room of deputy commissioner, reports BSS.
DC Umme Salma Tanzia was the chief guest in the workshop titled ‘Human Approach to Sufferers during any Natural Disaster’ while it was chaired by executive president of AKK Abdul Jalil. ADC (Gen) Protap Chandra Biswas, ADC (Education & ICT) Eradul Haque were the special guests.
In a power point presentation, AKK Project Manager Akhil Chandra Bairagi presented the intensity of disaster in different areas of this district particularly in four unions of Faridpur Sadar upazila, four unions of Charbhadrasan and five unions of Sadarpur upazilas.
He told the workshop that thousands of people of these areas are constant victims of river erosion, storm and flood every year.
Bairagi recommended the availability and mobilization of resources ready during the disaster. He also recommended special care for the children, pregnant women and physically challenged people.
DC Tanzia said that now we have earned the reputation of a nation which can skillfully tackle any kind natural disaster and climatic change. She thanked the organizer and stressed the need for involving more disaster affected people in the workshop and other activities of AKK.
The workshop was addressed, among others, by BSS correspondent Prof. Md.  Shahjahan, NGO personnel Kazi Ashraful Hassan, Fazlul Hadi Sabbir, Asma Akhtar Mukta, Azharul Islam, senior station officer of Fire Service Saifuzzaman and a Char land woman Mariam Begum.
