Fourteen Bangladeshi people, including five women, returned home through Benapole check post after serving three years’ imprisonment in India.
The returnees hail from different areas of Shariatpur, Gopalganj, Dhaka, Narail, Jessore, Mymensingh, Noakhali, Chuadanga, Jessore, Madaripur, Rangpur, Pabna and Bagerhat districts.
Indian Border Security Force (BSF) handed them over to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) through Benapole check post on Monday night, according to BGB sources.
Ikbal Hossain, officer-in-charge Benapole check post police immigration, said Indian police arrested them in Mumbai for entering India without necessary documents three and a half years ago through Jessore border point in search of better jobs.
Upon completion of their jail terms, the Indian government has returned them following repeated requests from the Home Ministry of Bangladesh.
Motiar Rahman, sub-inspector of Benapole Port Police Station, said they handed the returnees over to their respective families through Rights Jessore and Bangladesh National Women Lawyers’ Association (BNWLA).
