National Income Tax Day-2016 will be observed today across the country with a renewed call for creating awareness among the people for payment of income tax regularly, reports BSS.
National Board of Revenue (NBR) has chalked out elaborate programmes in observance of the day.
A colourful rally will be brought out from the head-office premises of the NBR, which will parade different thoroughfares, including the Jatiya Press Club, Secretariat and Bijoy Nagar before termination at the NBR.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith and NBR Chairman Nojibur Rahman will, among others, join the procession.
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have issued separate messages on the occasion wishing success of the day.
In the messages they greeted all officials and employees of the NBR and tax-paying individuals and companies.
President Hamid in his message said the NBR has been working relentlessly to meet the target of revenue earnings through adopting “Good Governance and Developed Management Policy”.
Terming the arrangement of income tax fair and income tax week as time-befitting, he said the creative and forward looking programmes have already helped create a tax-friendly environment in the country.
“Different innovative programmes of the NBR are making vital contribution to building close relations between the taxpayers and tax officials. It is also creating a taxpayers and business friendly environment in the country,” said the President.
The President urged all concerned to come forward with collaborative sprit to further strengthen and integrate the revenue earnings in the country.
In her message Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the NBR is working relentlessly to implement the programmes of the present government through further increasing the revenue earnings.
She said the government organised week-long income tax fair in 150 places across the country from November 1 and income tax week, for the first time, from November 24 to create a taxpayers-friendly environment and close relations between taxpayers and tax officials.
The Prime Minister said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had established the NBR in 1972 to build a self-reliant country.
“We will be able to establish a hunger and poverty free ‘Sonar Bangla’ as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman through materialising the goals of becoming a middle income country by 2021 and a developed country by 2041,” said the Prime Minister.
She urged all concerned to get involved in the development of the country directly through paying tax properly.
