The government has taken initiative of establishing two LPG storages and bottling plants in Chittagong to meet up the increasing demand of LPG in household.
Earlier, the government took the initiatives of establishing two LPG storages and bottling plants in Mongla and Tangail but those initiatives didn’t pay off.
An official from Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) informed that Standard Asiatic Oil Company Ltd (SAOCL) and LP Gas Ltd of Latifpur of Sitakundo upazilla of Chittagong will implement the project.
SAOCL also gets the permission to construct LPG cylinder manufacturing plant.
The Energy and Mineral Resources Division (EMRD) recently gave its consent for the land acquisition for the plant. The capacity for each of the two plants will be one lakh ton.
SAOCL has already got the administrative approval for acquiring 10 acre of Khas land in Latifpur. LP Gas Ltd also got the same permission.
The BPC officials said for the construction of a LPG storage and bottling plant, at least Tk 100 crore is needed. They also said that it would take at least a year for land acquisition and the construction of the plant.
