Breast cancer diagnosis begins Dec 1
National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital (NICRH) has taken a breast cancer screening programme for detecting breast cancer at earlier stage, said a press release of the institute in the capital yesterday.
As per the directives of the Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim, the NICRH will begin the programme on December 1 on the occasion of the great Victory Day and it would continue until December 31. The free check-up will take place from 9am to 1pm on every working day. A team of cancer specialists will operate the program on the ground floor of the hospital.

40 ‘smugglers’ surrender 
A total of 40 alleged smugglers and drug-traffickers have willingly surrendered to police in Rajshahi on Monday.
They surrendered in a programme arranged by Char Mazar Diar Community Policing Committee Monday afternoon expressing their commitment of abstaining themselves from the anti-social activities forever. They also took oath on the issue. Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) Shafiqul Islam attended the meeting as the chief guest with Bazley Rizvi Al Hassan Munjil, Chairman of Haripur Union Parishad, in the chair.

Seminar on sea awareness held 
As part of the annual sea rehearsal exercise safe guard-2016 of Bangladesh Navy (BN), a seminar on sea awareness was held at Titumir Fairway Hall, a watch-post of Khulna Navy, here on Monday.
Dean of Maritime Governance and Policy Faculty of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Medical University Commodore Md. Ziauddin Alamgir adressed the seminar as chief guest while Captain M Zaheer Uddin moderated it. Professor of Fisheries and Marine Resource Technology Discipline of Khulna University Md Abdur Rouf, Managing Director of the Bengal Tour Ltd. Md. Masud Hossain, Staff Officer of Mongla Coast Guard Lt. Commandar M Rahatuzzaman, Divisional Forest Officer of East Forest Md. Sayedul Islam and chief security officer of Mongla Port Commander M Habibul Mowla spoke as special guests.

Training for volunteers stressed
Speakers in Rajshahi in a discussion stressed need-based training for the grassroots volunteers for capacity development of the rural people.
They viewed that flourished leadership of volunteers is always helpful for developing and infusing dynamism into the local level civic services. There is no alternative to strengthen the political empowerment of women and bring dynamism into the local level development activities for overall development of the country. They were addressing the closing session of a daylong leadership and skill development training for the volunteers.
