The High Court yesterday directed the government to take steps for the treatment of Shahnur Biswas who was injured by miscreants for protesting the stalking of his daughter in Kaliganj upazila of Jhenaidah, reports UNB.
An HC bench of Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice Mohammad Ullah passed the order after receiving a report on arrest of the accused in connection with the stalking and attack incidents.
The court also ordered the Inspector General of Police and Jhenidah Superintendent of Police to ensure safety to his family. Earlier on November 22, the court issued a suo moto rule to arrest within 72-hour the criminals in connection with the attack. The HC also ordered the authorities concerned to submit the progress report in this regard by November 27.
On October 16, a gang of stalkers attacked Shahnur Biswas, a resident of Naldanga village of the upazila, as he protested their stalking of his daughter. The stalkers beat him indiscriminately, leaving his seriously injured.
Shahanur underwent amputation of both of his legs and he is now undergoing treatment at National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR) in the capital.
A case was filed with the Kaliganj Police Station in this connection. The stalkers are also reportedly threatening the victim’s family to withdraw the case, according to the Bangla daily.
