Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha has asked officials concerned to strictly follow section 31 (a) of Women and Children Repression Prevention Act-2000 while dealing with cases under the law, reports BSS. In a notice signed by High Court Division Registrar Abu Syed Diljar Hussain, the Chief Justice said, according to sub-section 3 of the section 20 of the act, a tribunal shall complete the adjudication within the period of one hundred and eighty days from the date the case was filed."According to section 31 (a) of the act, if the tribunal fails to dispose of the case within the stipulated time, it will have to make a report mentioning the reasons behind the failure and submit this to Supreme Court within thirty days. The tribunal has to send a copy of that report to the government as well. The concerned public prosecutor and police official too have to make similar reports and submit a copy each to the Supreme Court," the notice said. "But it has been learned that concerned tribunals are not submitting such reports to the Supreme Court. The public prosecutor and police official too are not submitting reports to the government and are not sending copies to the Supreme Court. It is unexpected, undesired, illegal and tanta mount to misconduct,” the notice added.
Meanwhile, the High Court Division has nominated 30 judicial officers to take part in a workshop to be organized on December 3 at Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). With the initiative from the Supreme Court and with the assistance of Access to Information (a2i) Program of PMO, the daylong workshop is aimed at exchanging views on simplifying different judicial services.
