Khulna Titans are not thinking much about their West Indian all-rounder Kevon Cooper before going into the major clash against performer-filled Chittagong Vikings.
Cooper, who is now the highest wicket-taker in BPL, reported for his suspected bowling action-the first instance in BPL-4. This is not new for him as he was suspected earlier in CPL, IPL and PSL, where he was warned that if he reported for the next time he will then be suspended from T20 tournament.
It is rumoured that he has problem in his action and so West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) don’t take any risk to incorporate him for T20.
This West Indian all-rounder grabbed 58 wickets just playing from 34 matches, where his next competitor is Shakib Al Hasan, who closely followed him with 55 that he grabbed from 43-match.
Last year Cooper had played for Barisal Bulls led Mahmudullah Riyad. He stunned all by his bowling performance scalping 22 wickets off nine matches. And so, Mahmudullah brought him to play for Khulna Titans this year.
He proved his potential in his very first match, where he conceded 17 runs to take two important wickets of the opponent though he was not in Titans’ first two matches due to his injury.
This year he took 9 wickets from six matches with the best figures of 3-35 that he claimed against Chittagong Vikings, who lost the match by four runs.
“It has been done several times. Sunil Narine has also been reported. Actually many bowlers across the world has been reported. We are not thinking about it. All are professional players they know what will be done for the team’s success,” said Alok Kapali.
“He has Test after the BPL tournament. It may be he will play Test. I think there will be no more change within the tournament. He know well as he played a good number of T20 matches for different teams and clubs across the globe. We are not thinking much about him. I think he himself is not thinking about it,” Kapali told reporters at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) ground yesterday.
BPL governing council chairman Afzalur Rahman Sinha said that they will include a provision in the suspected bowling action in our next BPL.
“We have no such provision of illegal bowling action in BPL. We got to know about Cooper’s matter. We meanwhile informed West Indies Cricket Board about Cooper’s suspected bowling action. It is a domestic tournament. If it would be international match or tournament then there will surely be an obligation of proving his bowling action right through bio-mechanical test. Although it’s a domestic tournament it should be a provision of suspected bowling action. Hopefully we will formulate this from the next BPL,” said Afzalur Rahman.
