Bashar terms Shahid’s injury unfortunate for Bangladesh

Sports Reporter

Bangladesh will next travel to Down Under to play a string of different formats of games just after the end of the T20 tournament of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

Of them, they will play a full series against New Zealand but they will hold a 10-day conditioning camp in Sydney, to dovetail with the wickets and condition in New Zealand as Australian wickets and conditions are akin to New Zealand.
Bangladesh meanwhile announced 22-member preliminary squad for the Australia-New Zealand tour. Some players of the squad, including Mustafizur Rahman, Tanvir Haider and Ebadot Hossain who are not fully fit yet, are doing their rehabilitation programme for being healed completely.
Even some of the squad members fell into injury, which became a concern of the team management, coach and selectors. Mohammad Shahid is one of them. Against Comilla Victorians, Dhaka Dynamites fast bowler Mohammad Shahid sustained ACL injury and once again sidelined for BPL and Australia-New Zealand tour.
He missed to play the last Test series against England at home turf due to his injury what he got to play the games of the National Cricket League (NCL). Being healed from injury, he then played for Dhaka Dynamites.
In this regard, selector Habibul Bashar Sumon said that they will announce the name of new pacer in place of Mohammad Shahid after the conclusion of the BPL-4.
“Firstly I want to say that it is unfortunate for Mohammad Shahid. He was in very good form and was also bowling very well. He was our strike bowler especially in Test. He dropped out of the last Test series due to his injury,” said Habibul Bashar.
“His injury really is unfortunate. But we are yet to fix any bowler as his replacement. After the end of the BPL we will decide who will be replaced him.” Sumon told newsmen.
“But we have much time in our hands.  Except Shahid we have some fast bowlers under our scanner are doing very good in BPL. It is unfortunate not only for him but also for us that we miss him. Those who are under our scanner are good enough,” he added.    Citing the names of some fast bowlers including Kamrul Islam Rabbi, Al Amin Hossain, Rubel Hossain, the selector said that it would be tough to pick one from the back-up players in place of Shahid.
“All have an equal possibility to  replace. But we have Kamrul Islam Rabbi, Al Amin Hossain, Rubel Hossain, who all are really bowling well. It’s a good thing that we have options in our hands,” the former skipper said.
“The bowler, who will be replaced among them, has capability of doing well.  All are experienced and have international exposure. It is true that we have to think much to pick one from them,” said Bashar, who is  working for Khulna Titans in BPL as its advisor.
