Two Bangladeshi students win int’l award
Two Bangladeshi students became global runners up at a contest titled QUANTA 2016 recently, says a press release.
QUANTA is one of the most prestigious science competitions in the world which allows students to showcase their brilliance in mathematics, science, debate and electronics, hosted by the largest school in the world, City Montessori School in Lucknow, India, held from November 17-20.
Sadid Bin Hasan and Irtiza Iram from Saint Joseph School won the runners up in mathematics quiz. This is the first time Bangladesh has achieved this honour, Bangladesh came second only to German national team. Schools from more than 40 countries participated in this competition. There were mathematics quiz, science quiz, obstacle robot race, debate, mental ability and aqua challenge over the 4-day competition.
BRACU launches German language course
The BRAC Institute of Languages (BIL), BRAC University (BRACU) has opened German language course at a launching seminar for dissemination of information regarding this initiative at the BRACU auditorium on Thursday, says a press release.
Lady Syeda Sarwat Abed, director, BRAC Institute of Languages of BRACU, emphasised on the importance of learning German language in order to pursue higher education and explore career opportunities in Germany. Other speakers at the seminar shared their valuable experiences on ‘life in Germany’ and provided an overview of higher education in German universities more particularly in engineering subjects. Shehla Riaz Khan Bangash, German Language Instructor at BIL; Rumana Kabir, Information and Office Manager from German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD); Ramita Atiq, Culture and Education Officer, Culture Section, and former Political Adviser Mujtoba Ahmed Murshed at the German embassy; Sharif Hossain, head of Languages of Goethe Institute Bangladesh; and Majumder Fazle Haider, Lecturer at BRACU, shared their thoughts in the seminar.
RU APEE dept to observe golden Jubilee from Dec 25
The Applied Physics and Electrical Engineering department (APEE) of the Rajshahi University (RU) will observe its golden jubilee in December, 2016.
Professor Dr Mamun-Or-Rashid Talukder, convener of golden Jubilee organizing committee, disclosed the information through a press release on early Saturday. He also said a two-day festival would be held in December 25-26, marking 50th anniversary of the department. The registration process for the programme has started yesterday and will be continued till December 25 and detailed information will be available on dept.ac.bd/apee/gi22016
Animal feed mill set up at BAU
MYMENSINGH: A new feed mill has been set up at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) in Mymensingh as part of the practical course of Animal Husbandry students and also the animal feed production. The newly launched feed mill can produce about 2.5 ton animal feed per hour.
BAU Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Ali Akbar on Sunday inaugurated the feed mill at Shahjalal Animal Nutrition Farm of the university.
Chaired by Prof Md Zohirul Haque Khondokar, head of Animal Nutrition department, BAU Students Affairs’ Advisor Prof SD Chawdhury and dean of Animal Husbandry faculty Prof Md Josimuddin Khan attended the inaugural session as the special guests.
Speakers at the programme told that over 200 feed mills are available in the country in where poultry, fish and animal feed are produced.
To boost up the students’ practical knowledge on feed industry course, this small scale feed mill has been set up, added the head of the Animal Nutrition department of BAU.
