Student admitted with burn injuries to Rangpur hospital
A second year student of Disaster Management Department of Begum Rokeya University yesterday was admitted to Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit of Rangpur Medical Collge Hospital with burn injury.
She was identified as Sadia Irtiza. According to information the incident took place when Sadia, a resident student of Fazilatun Nesa Seikh Mujib Hall, was injured while cooking in her room. Hearing her crying students of neighbour rushed to spot and doused the fire and brought her to Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit of Rangpur Medical College Hospital . Departmental Head of the Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit Dr Maruful Islam said Sadia now safe.
Fire guts textiles mills in Ctg
A devastating fire gutted a store room and a sewing section of "Regent Textiles Mills Limited" of Chittagong on Sunday morning.
Fire Service and Civil Defence Agrabad control room sources said the fire erupted at the store room of ground floor and sewing section of the first floor around 6.20 am. "No casualties have been reported as there were no workers working into the factory when the fire broke out," the sources said, adding that four fire fighting units managed to put out the flames by 9.15 am. Firefighters claimed that the fire gutted finished goods and machineries of the factory.
Consultation meeting held
A national consultation meeting titled "Recruitment for Overseas Employment: Opportunities and Challenges" was held at BRAC Centre in the capital on Saturday.
BRAC, National Alliance for Migrants' Rights, Bangladesh and Bangladesh Civil Society Coordination Committee on GFMD organised the consultation meeting while Hasan Imam, Programme Head of Migration, BRAC presented the keynote paper. Director General, (additional secretary) Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) Md Selim Reza addressed the consultation meeting as the chief guest.
Publication ceremony held
Prime Minister's Media Advisor Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury on Saturday lauded the role of noted journalist Liaqat Ali in the flourishing of journalism and said he (Liaqat) had always fought for establishing the rights of the journalists and freedom for press.
"Journalist Liakat Ali had dedicated his life for objective journalism and for the development of South-Western region of the country," he told a publication ceremony of a memorial book on Liaqat Ali.Dainik Purpanchal, a popular Bengali daily in the region, arranged the publication ceremony.
Vitamin 'A' plus campaign
Speakers here urged all concerned to make the forthcoming December 10 National Vitamin 'A' plus campaign-2016 (2nd round) a total success for building a healthy nation.
They said vitamin 'A' supplement is essential for the normal functioning of the visual system, maintenance of cell function for growth, red blood cell production, immunity and reproduction. They added, various problems including eyesight and night blindness could be prevented and cured through successful implementation of the campaign. Office of the Divisional Directorate of Health organised on Sunday the workshop and planning meeting at its conference hall ahead of the campaign in association with Institute of Public Health Nutrition (IPHN) and UNICEF.
