Graft case against Annie

High Court order upheld

UNB

The Appellate Division of Supreme Court yesterday upheld a High Court order that had suspended the proceedings of a graft case against BNP leader Shaheed Uddin Chowdhury Annie for amassing wealth beyond known sources of income, reports UNB.
A four-member SC bench headed by Chief Justice S K Sinha passed the order on a petition filed by the Anti Corruption Commission.
Advocate Joynul Abedin and Jahirul Islam Sumon stood for Annie while Khurshid Alam Khan for the ACC. On September 1, the High Court suspended the proceedings of the corruption case.
Later, the ACC filed a petition seeking a stay order.
The anti-graft body filed the case with Ramna Police Station against the former Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal president on October 9, 2014.
Charges were pressed against him at the court on June 18, 2015.
The chargesheet said the BNP leader had withheld information of wealth worth over Tk 13.1 lakh in the statement he submitted to the Commission.
