South Asian University (SAU) will increase the number of its teachers and students from member countries of South Asian Association for Regional Co-operation (SAARC), reports UNB.
The decision came at the 9th governing board meeting of the university held at a hotel in the capital yesterday. Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC) arranged the meeting.
The meeting also suggested raising the number of SAU scholarships and fellowships for the teachers and students from the Saarc member countries.
Chairperson of the governing board and Chairman of Nepal UGC Prof Dr Parashar Prasad Koirala presided over the meeting while chairman of the Bangladesh UGC Prof Abdul Mannan attended the meeting as a member of the governing board, said a UGC press release.
Sixteen representatives from the Saarc member countries, including SAU President Dr Kavita A Sharma, Afghan deputy minister for higher education Dr Baray Seddiqi, Chairman of Indian UGC Prof Ved Prakash, Maldives state minister for education Dr Abdulla Nazeer and Chancellor of the Maldives National University Dr Mohammed Latheef, were present at the meeting.
