A total of 12 riverine robbers, including one gang leader with huge arms, have surrendered to RAB in presence of Home Minister Asaduzaman Khan Kamal, MP, at RAB-8 Complex in the city yesterday afternoon.
Welcoming them, the minister alerted the patronisers of the robbers and said otherwise “We will uproot everyone”. He also asked them to come back in normal life.
The minister said “It is our commitment to save the Sundarban forest. That’s why we redecorated the police and RAB and strengthen the Coast Guard”. He said the surrendered robbers will be rehabilitated socially and financially.
[UNB adds: Addressing a programme after the surrender, the home minister said the members of the robber gang promised to return to normal life.]
Law enforcing agencies will continue their drives in the Sundarbans to stop robbery, he added.]
The surrendered robbers are: Chief of Khokababu Bahini Md. Kobirul Islam, Md Aminur Islam, Md. Shahjahan Gazi, Md. Abdul Aziz, Md. Mizanur Rahman, Md. Rabiul Islam, Md. Osman Gani, Md. Rafiqul Gazi, Md. Easin Ali, Md. Mohidul Islam, Md. Mojibor Rahman and Md. Abul Kalam. They were sent to Barisal Central Jail.
During the programme, they also surrendered 22 arms. The program presided over by CO of RAB-8 Lt. Col. Md. Iftekharul Mabud and addressed among others by Abul Hasanat Abdullah MP, Talukdar. Md. Eynus MP.
