Curbing militancy

The government should make all-out efforts to face militancy
Curbing militancy

Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon recently  urged all pro-liberation forces to build a collective resistance against the militancy and communalism. According to a report in this newspaper on Sunday, the minister said that a vested quarter has been trying in a planned way to create communal division in the country. Militancy and communalism are like vicious fangs of a venomous cobra. Those can inflict incalculable harms to the peace-loving people.   The recent communal attacks on minorities have triggered grave concern among the saner segment of the society.
It is clear as the daylight that the militant organizations are formidable threat to the state. Their nefarious activities are aimed at destabilising the country. Even Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina escaped a number of attempts on her life perpetrated by the militants. The brutal carnage at the Holey Artisan Café at Gulshan in the city recently speaks volumes of the heinous designs of the rowdy elements. It is worrying to note that firearms and explosives are being recovered from the possession of the militants. The militants have their strongholds in different places, particularly in south-western region of the country. The business of counterfeit currency notes in Bangladesh is allegedly being controlled by JMB, according to reliable sources.
After the hanging to death of six militants, including JMB Chief Shaikh Abdur Rahman and Siddiqul Islam alias Bangla Bhai,  it was thought that the activities of the militants had been neutralized greatly in the country but the activities of the militants disproved it. The peace and security of the country are greatly jeopardized due to the heinous activities of the militants. Dreadful information relating to the secret activities of the militants is being divulged by a few activists of the organizations under police custody.
Life and living in Bangladesh are still relatively peaceful. Although militancy and terrorism unleashed by some religious extremists disrupts peace in the country, the sinister effort has greatly been neutralized. But there is no room for expressing complacency. The government should make all-out efforts to face militancy. If peaceful environment persists in the country, local and foreign investors will come forward to set up industries. This will create employment opportunity for the jobless people on the one hand and strengthen the economy of the country on the other. Generation of massive awareness against militancy can help achieve the goal.
