Inclusive development helps achieve MDG targets: Experts

Bangladesh has already met several targets of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and it needs to ensure inclusive development for achieving remaining MDGs target within a stipulated time, said development experts, reports BSS.   
Bangladesh has made remarkable progress in the areas of poverty reduction, reducing the prevalence of underweight children, increasing enrolment in primary schools, lowering the infant mortality rate and maternal mortality ratio, improving immunisation coverage and reducing the incidence of communicable diseases, they made the observation at a discussion here on Monday.
 The United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) organised the discussion at its conference room on the occasion of Millennium Development Goals Report 2015, a UNIC press release said.
Development and governance activist Dr Zahirul Alam, representatives of NGOs, academicians, communication experts, civil society members and youngsters, among others, addressed the discussion with UN expert and Director  of Dhaka Ahsania Mission Kazi Ali Reza in the chair. UNIC Officer-in-Charge M Moniruzzaman moderated the roundtable and shared the salient features of the report, which shows that there are significant improvements in various goals during the last fifteen years globally including Bangladesh.
Bangladesh has made significant strides in different indicators of development; Reza said, adding inclusiveness and equity can play a key role for sustainable development and growth in the country.
Bangladesh has made commendable progress in alleviating poverty and hunger as it is maintaining excellent economic growth over the last two decades, other speakers said, adding it needs to ensure equal economic opportunities for all to ensure sustainable development.
