A suspected member of Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) was killed in a reported gunfight with detectives at Rakhalgachhi in Sadar upazila of Bagerhat early yesterday, reports UNB. Identity of the deceased could not be confirmed yet. Superintendent of police Pangkaj Chandra Ray said on secret information, a team of the Detective Branch (DB) conducted a drive in the area around 1.30am.
Sensing the presence of the detectives, the JMB men opened fire at them, prompting a retaliation that triggering a gunfight. Later, the law enforcers arrested a the bullet-injured JMB member from the spot while his associates managed to flee from the scene. He was rushed to Khulna Medical College Hospital where doctor declared him dead. The detectives also recovered two shooter guns, three hand bombs, some sharp weapons and five rounds of bullets from the spot. Police also claimed that three policemen were injured in the incident.
