Bangladesh earned the distinction of earning the 5th AHF Cup title for the third successive occasion. Bangladesh outplayed Sri Lanka 3-0 in the final in Hong Kong yesterday.
Bangladesh, who led the first half 1-0, won the previous two titles in 2012 and 2008, according to Bangladesh Hockey Federation sources.
By virtue of winning the title, Bangladesh earned the right to play in the Asia Cup Hockey. Top seven teams will play directly into the Asia Cup, while Bangladesh qualified as the last and eighth team. The next Asia Cup Hockey will be held in Dhaka in 23017.
Bangladesh took the lead in 22n minute when Zubair Hossain Niloy found the mark from a field goal. The champions added two more goals in the last eight minutes. Ashraful Islam doubled the lead in the 62nd minute converting a penalty corner. AHM Kamruzzaman completed the tally three minutes before the final whistle.
