Shahid blow for Dynamites

Sports Reporter

Dhaka Dynamites’ paceman Mohammad Shahid sidelined for the next two weeks with right knee injury and finished his campaign in the ongoing T20 tournament of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) fourth edition.

The pacer sustained injury while he was fielding against defending champions Comilla Victorians.  It was seen in the primary observation after doing MRI that he was stuck with Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury, BCB chief physician Dr Debashis Chowdhury. For this, he has to stay in rest (out of cricket) for the next two or three weeks. Thereafter, his rehabilitation will start.
“Shahid sustained injury yesterday. Today (Sunday) we have done a scan on his leg. We are yet to get any official report in hands. But we have estimated from our primary observation that he was stuck with ACL injury,” said Dr Debashis Chowdhury.
“We have suggested keeping him in full rest for the next two weeks. Along with that, the primary treatment will keep going. Then we could inform you how much time will be needed to make him healed fully,” Chowdhury told The Independent.
“Sometimes the matter of healing from injury depends on player. Normally two weeks in rest is enough time for such injury. Thereafter, his rehabilitation will be kick-started. It varies on players. But the rest period will be identical. Overall, he will have to stay out of cricket from three weeks to more,” he added.
Dynamites pacer sustained injury while he tried to stop a ball by his leg near the boundary line. It will be seemed that he sustained injury in back heel but he got stuck in his right knee.
Comilla Vikings batsman Ahmed Shehzad went to cut a shot of the Prasanna’s second delivery of the 14th over of Dynamites innings over deep third man. Shahid lost his balance to stop the ball by his right leg running from left flank to extra cover. The right-handed pacer thereafter could not get down in the field due to injury.
Before getting injury, he bowled two overs and took one wicket giving away just six runs. The pacer was in full rhythm in BPL. He scalped 15 wickets from eight matches. He placed second on the list of the highest wicket-taker just after Shafiul Islam, who took 16 wickets.
He was in the 22-member Bangladesh team, who will hold a 10-day conditioning camp in Sydney, Australia before heading to New Zealand for the full series. There is apprehension on his fitness before the bilateral series.
Dr Debashis expressed his optimism about the progress of the three players-Mustafizur Rahman, Ebadot Hossain and Tanvir Haider of the primary Bangladesh squad.
