Rajshahi badly need a win against Rangpur

Sports Reporter

Only one match will be held on the fourth day of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) third phase today when Rajshahi Kings will face-off Rangpur Riders at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) at 5:45pm.

This will be the second encounter for Kings and Riders. In their first meeting, which was held in first phase in Dhaka, where Riders conceded a 12-run defeat to resurgent Rajshahi Kings.
Rangpur Riders already played seven matches, while Rajshahi Kings played one match more than Riders. After the end of their respective games, Rangpur Riders earned 10 points from seven matches and Rajshahi notched up eight points from eight matches.
On points table, Rangpur Riders placed third just after table-topper Khulna Titans (12) and Dhaka Dynamites (10). Rajshahi Kings on the other hand, are languishing at fifth position just above Barisal Bulls (6) and Comilla Victorians (2).
By winning the match against Khulna Titans on Saturday, Rajshahi Kings surpassed Barisal Bulls and clinched the identical eight points with Chittagong Vikings, who were ahead of Kings due to better net run-rate.
Rangpur Riders did not appear in practice session as they had match against Chittagong Vikings on Sunday night.
Rajshahi Kings also stayed away form practice as they had played match on Saturday night. But some of their players had come and did their individual practice at the BCB-National Cricket Academy (NCA) ground.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Nurul Hasan Sohan is the first player of the Kings who came here in Academy ground. He honed his batting skills and techniques by practicing at net for a longer period.
It is very difficult for Kings to go into the next phase. They have four matches ahead. Victory in each match is important what was told by Kings skipper Darren Sammy at their post-match conference.
“Every game is important. If you look at the table and Rangpur are on the top of the table with 10 points. We are at the bottom. You know every game is like a final. It’s important to get point,” said Darren Sammy.
“We have the first goal is to make the play off.  We could do that if we continue to improve in our execution in the field,” Sammy told media at the post-match conference at the Media Block of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
“Tomorrow is our another day. This victory will definitely give us some confidence to going forward,” he added.
