JU Mathematics dept launches new programme
The Department of Mathematics of Jahangirnagar University (JU) launched one year Professional Master of Science in Mathematics (PMSM) programme, says a press release.
Applicants having at least a Bachelor degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Engineering and Computer Sciences are qualified for the PMSM programme, confirmed programme coordinator also Professor of JU Mathematics department Sharif Uddin.
A one-hour admission test (MCQ) will be held based on basics in Mathematics and English language proficiency. Selected candidates will have to appear on a viva-voce at the time of admission for final selection, the release added.
Applicants can choice any one method either Online or Offline to apply. The application form will be available from July 6 to August 10 while the admission test will be held on August 14.

Annual doa mahfil held at NSU
The annual doa mahfil of North South University (NSU) was held on the campus in the capital on Monday, says a press release.
Eminent Islamic scholar Maulana Kafiluddin Sarkar led the Doa Mahfil. This was an event organised by NSU Social Services Club each year.  MA Kashem, chairman, Board of Trustees and Professor Amin Sarkar, vice-chancellor, M Emdadul Haq, director Student Affairs, delivered notes on holy Ramzan and its effectiveness in daily life.
The mahfil started with Ham’d – Naath and Islamic Gagal. Students, faculty members, administrative heads and staffs took part in the programme. Mahfil was followed by Iftar.

Seminar on int’l labour migration held
The General Education Department (GED) of the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) organised a seminar on ‘challenges of international labour migration from Bangladesh’ at the university auditorium in the capital yesterday, says a press release.
Tasneem Siddiqui, professor of Political Science and Chair of the Refugee and Migratory Movements Research Unit (RMMRU) of Dhaka University, was the key note speaker. The objective of the seminar was to find out the challenges and opportunities of current international labour migration from Bangladesh.
In her address Tasneem Siddiqui observed that international migration from Bangladesh has increased 3.85 per cent in 2014 compared to the previous year. She said irregular maritime migration has become a major threat for the migration sector of Bangladesh. She expressed that more emphasis should be given to revising the G2G policy, reducing international migration costs and imparting skills on the migrants.
