Mass awareness must to end violence against women

RAJSHAHI: There is no alternative to creating mass-awareness with a changed social mindset for preventing all sorts of violence and repressions against women to ensure equal women rights and women empowerment.
Speakers made this observation while addressing a discussion at Shaheb Bazar Zero Point in the metropolis yesterday.
Association for Community Development, a rights-based non-government organisation, arranged the programme in observance of the International Women Repression Prevention Day- 2016, reports BSS.
Mayor-in-Charge of Rajshahi City Corporation Nizam-Ul Azim, Association for Community Development  Programme Managers Rabiul Islam, Shahinur Alam, Project Coordinators Ehsanul Amin, Monirul Islam, Ahsan Ullah Sarker, Raihanul islam and Mohaimenul Haque addressed the meeting.
The speakers narrated situations about repressions against women in various forms and unequivocally called for comprehensive efforts of all stakeholders including the government-non-government organisations, civil society and every citizen for rooting out violence against women.
Forging social resistance and movement to end violence against women and children has become an urgent need for facilitating them to make themselves worthy citizens.
Mayor Nizam-Ul Azim viewed all of us should raise voice and work together to address the social problem collectively as only the government or any other single organization cannot bring any positive result in this regard.
Terming the child marriage as the major violence and gross violation of human rights he said there is no alternative to check it substantially.
Despite multifarious interventions by the government and non- government organizations concerned, the child marriage is taking place. In this situation, the community people and mass-media should come forward positively.
Azim said unemployment, intrusion of foreign culture and weak family bondage were triggering various unexpected incidents like sexual harassment.
