As part of the ongoing reshuffle in the civil administration, the government will promote around 500 bureaucrats of three ranks in a day or two. The senior assistant secretary will be promoted to the post of deputy secretary (DS), the DS to joint secretary (JS), and the JS to the rank of additional secretary (AS).
To promote officials to the three ranks, the higher authorities have finalised the lists of names. The public administration ministry is likely to be issue three different notifications in this respect today.
To promote the officials, a series of meetings of the Superior Selection Board (SSB) has been held, with SSB chief and Cabinet secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam in the chair.
As of October 29, 75 secretaries and acting secretaries are now working against 75 duty posts, while 414 additional secretaries are working against 110 posts. A total of 833 joint secretaries are working in different ministries and divisions against 341 sanctioned posts, while 1,276 deputy secretaries are working against 828 sanctioned posts. At the same time, 1,603 senior assistant secretaries are working against 2,340 sanctioned posts in the civil administration.
So far, the government has promoted around 550 officers to ranks such as DS, JS, AS, secretary, and senior secretary—in many cases, bypassing seniority.
