President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad, in separate messages yesterday, expressed deep shock and profound grief at the death of Cuba’s former president and leader of its communist revolution Fidel Castro, reports UNB.
In a condolence message, Abdul Hamid said the death of Fidel Castro will create a vacuum in world politics which will never be fulfilled. “The people of the world would always remember his contribution to the struggle for realizing the rights of exploited people of the world,” he added. He expressed deep sympathy to the people of Cuba and its government and prayed for the salvation of his departed soul.
Expressing deep shock at the death of Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the great Cuban leader will be ever remembered by the people of Bangladesh with love and reverence.
In a condolence message sent to Cuban President Raul Modesto Castro Ruz, the Prime Minister said, “I’m deeply grieved at the sad demise of the great Cuban leader, Fidel Castro. On behalf of the people and the government
of Bangladesh, I convey our heartfelt condolences to you and through you to the members of the bereaved family and the people of the Republic of Cuba.”
She recalled with deep gratitude the unwavering support and contribution of Fidel Castro during Liberation War in 1971. “He was awarded “Bangladesh Liberation War Honour” in recognition of his
invaluable contribution to our War of Liberation.”
She said Castro and her father, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, were great friends.
“During their meeting at the Non-Aligned Movement Summit in Algiers in 1973, Mr Castro made an emotional remark while hugging my father, which I still recall, ‘I have not seen the Himalayas. But I have seen Sheikh Mujib. In personality and courage, this man is the Himalayas. I have thus had the experience of witnessing the Himalayas’,” she said.
Hasina said this unusually close friendship and mutual respect between the two leaders brought our two countries closer in cooperation on bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest.
“The support of the great leader, government and the people of Cuba, was crucial for Bangladesh as a newly independent country facing multi-faceted challenges in the early years of our independence. The
great Cuban leader will be ever remembered by the people of Bangladesh with love and reverence,” she added. She prayed for the salvation of his departed soul.
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia also expressed profound shock at the death of Fidel Castro. In a condolence message, she said Fidel Castro will forever be remembered by the people of Bangladesh due to his outstanding contributions to country’s Liberation War in 1971.
“He was a global voice for the rights of the deprived people of the world,” she observed. The BNP chief also recalled Fidel Castro’s role in establishing the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). She prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and expressed deep sympathy to the people of Cuba and its government.
Meanwhile, in a message on her Twitter account, Khaleda said, “A genuine friend of people & heroic revolutionary has sadly died. But Fidel Castro will live forever in the annals of human history.” Jatiya Party (JP) Chairman Hussein Muhammad Ershad expressed deep shock at the death of Cuba’s former President and leader of the Communist revolution Fidel Castro. In a condolence message, he said the death of Fidel Castro will create a vacuum in the politics of world arena which will never be fulfilled. The JP Chairman prayed for the salvation of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the people of Cuba and its government. Fidel Castro, Cuba’s former president and leader of its communist revolution died around 10.30 pm (Cuba local time) on Friday night at the age of 90. BBC quoted Cuba President Raul Castro as saying, “The commander in chief of the Cuban revolution died at 22:29 hours this evening.”
