India wants peace on Bangladesh-Myanmar borders, says envoy

Indian High Commissioner Harsh Vardhan Shringla yesterday said New Delhi seeks tranquility on Bangladesh-Myanmar borders having its own frontiers with both the countries while it supported Dhaka’s stance on Rohingya issue, reports BSS.
“As far as we are concerned we want to peace and tranquility among borders not only between neighbouring countries but also the borders enclosed our own borders with India and Myanmar,” the Indian envoy told journalists on the sidelines of a function at CIRDAP auditorium here as asked for comments on the Rohingya issue.
The envoy, however, preferred not to make any direct comment on the “situation” in Myanmar’s Rakhine state bordering Bangladesh but stressed the need for working together among the neighbouring countries to ensure peace and stability in the region.
Earlier he took part in a discussion on “Celebration of the Constitution of India” jointly organized by the High Commission of India in Dhaka and Bangladesh-India Friendship Society (BIFC) where constitutional experts also were present.
BISF President Professor Emeritus Dr AK Azad Chowdhury, former chairman of Human Rights Commission Prof Dr Mizanur Rahman, Law Commission member Prof Dr Shah Alam and BISF General Secretary Subiur Kushari also spoke there.
Asked if Dhaka and New Delhi could join hands in resolving the situation in Rakhine he said “we have very institutionalized system of discussion, exchanges and cooperation between our two countries”.
“We discuss all issues of bilateral, regional and international importance.”
He added: “We would continue discuss on all issues and topics which are important for both the countries. In general, India always supports everything Bangladesh does.”
