Cordelia Lynch, an American TV reporter has made a documentary on post-presidential election of America. She said about this documentary, "We have spent the week filming a documentary for Sky Atlantic, trying to find out how America is coping with the aftermath of a brutal election." She wrote, "The presidential race divided families, broke friendships and turned neighbours against neighbours." In Detroit Pastor Lawrence Glass of El Bethel Church expressed his worries saying, "A rise in violence that could stir the country up into civil war."
This fear has swept not only America but many parts of the world that Trump may lead the world towards a greater uncertainty. This was somewhat subsided after his election victory. Before election he declared that he would ban the entry of Muslims in America. That promise has already been withdrawn from his website. His election promise was that he would deport 1 Crore ten lakhs illegal immigrants from his country. Now his Vice-President Mike Pence said that there is no such proposal under their consideration. Trump's promise about banning abortion is also no more in the agenda. Even the president elect's attitude towards the health plan introduced by Obama has been changed. Now he is saying that he would not repeal the good provisions of Obama care.
These were the rays of hope which did not last long in the minds of the American people. He appointed people in his new administration who were allegedly known as racist, anti-abortionist and anti-human rights. They are also accused of war mongering and for their anti-immigration policies. Even a man like Noam Chomsky warned the world populace that Trump's victory may invite catastrophe for the earth. The new president even wants to repeal the environment treaty which was passed in Paris and approved by the Obama administration. If he keeps his promises the world will face a terrible catastrophe. This will affect especially South Asian developing countries. In Bangladesh a few million people will be homeless. India will face acute water crisis which will affect the lives of more than 30 crore people.
If America under Trump withdraws from the world trade, many countries including Japan and China will face temporary problem but America would eventually become an isolated country like the 1930s and may lose its leadership of global capitalism. There was a joke about President Ronald Regan. Before becoming president he was a B movie actor. When he became the President of America some people used to joke that Regan could not think of himself as the President of America, he thought himself to be acting in the role of one. Likewise Donald Trump perhaps could not absorb the unexpected victory and he still thinks he is acting as a President in his telly show. Otherwise, before stepping into the White House which was scheduled for next January, he could not behave like a president who is already in power and could not make irresponsible comments which is straining America's relations with its great ally-Britain. He said Nigel Farage, the ex-leader of UKIP of Great Britain should be made UK ambassador to Washington. Conservative Theresa May's government could not take this interference politely. They said that only the British government could take the decision of appointing an ambassador to Washington, Trump cannot dictate it. Moreover, the British ambassador in Washington, who is known as a great diplomat, has only been newly appointed.
British media also criticized Trump's suggestion saying that if Nigel is such a great pal of Trump he can make Farage a member of his administration by changing his citizenship.
Now the question arises that if Trump cannot sustain the traditional friendship between the UK and the USA what would be the relation of America with Europe? Already there is fear that President elect Trump will weaken the NATO and put less importance on the security of Europe. He may meddle with Middle-east and his war mongering policies may result in a more violent world. In one aspect, we may say that America's moral position on free and fair election is not strong anymore. During George Bush's first-term election there was allegation that some of the Supreme Court judges have manipulated the election in favour of Bush. This time the allegation is much more serious.
After the collapse of the British Empire America replaced the power vacuum and became the rising new empire-more aggressive and assertive.
Washington claimed the leadership of the so-called free world or democratic world. They started giving sermons to the newly-independent Afro-Asian countries on how to hold free and fair elections. In Bangladesh also many times they discovered some defects in the election and gave sermons to the leaders of Bangladesh on how to conduct election free from interference and manipulation. Now the irony of fate is that the country which claimed to be the greatest democracy in the world is now accused of vote-manipulation in their recent presidential election. The allegation was first raised by Donald Trump himself. He told in his election campaign that Hillary Clinton is going for vote-rigging. But after the election the Donald camp is being accused of vote manipulation.
A London evening news published a news sent from Los Angeles on 23rd November, Wednesday that, "A group of election Lawyers and computer scientists lobbied the democratic candidate's top campaign chief in a call last week on vote counts in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. The experts' findings showed that in Wisconsin Mrs. Clinton received 7% fewer votes in counties that relied on electronic voting machines compared with counties that used optical scanners and paper ballots. Based on this analysis they said that Hillary could have been denied as many as 30,000 votes in a state she lost by 27,000 to Mr. Trump. Academics claim that a recount could overturn the present result in favour of Hillary Clinton. Any recount would involve a forensic audit of voting machines in the states where the results were questioned. This group reportedly called Mrs. Clinton's campaign chairman John Podesta and campaign general counsel Marc Elias. Hillary has not commented."
Hillary Clinton or Democratic Party may not challenge Donald Trump's election victory to keep their countries democratic image to the outside world. But if Donald Trump does not go for a 'correction' and modify his administration's goal then discontent against his presidency will continue. That will seriously challenge the present position of America as a global leader and lead the country towards a seen or unseen civil war which may disunite a united country like the Soviet Union, which was once a mighty super power.
