Star-studded Dhaka Dynamites will take on defending champions Comilla Victorians in the first match of the second day of the third phase at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur at 1:00pm today. This will be the second encounter for Dynamites and Victorians. In their first meet, Dhaka Dynamites thrashed Comilla Victorians by 33 runs in the high-scoring match at Chittagong phase.
Both Dynamites and Victorians already so far played the same number of seven matches. Dhaka Dynamites won four matches. Of them, they won three in Dhaka phase and one in Chittagong phase. They had the possibility of going into the top spot of the point table but they are languishing at the third with eight points just after Rangpur Riders (10) and Khulna Titans (10), who both earned the identical 10 points from six and seven matches respectively.
Comilla Victorians on the other hand won only one match that they did in Chittagong. They could not triumph any match in Dhaka phase. They are now at the bottom of the point table with two points.
Both the teams held their respective pre-match day practice session at the BCB-National Cricket Academy (NCA) with the involvement of all the local and overseas players yesterday.
Dynamites opener Mehedi Maruf talked to the media after the practice session, where he said that they are focusing on winning their next matches following their back-to-back match loses.
“Actually the team performance is now more important than the personal accomplishment. We lost our last two matches. So, we needed to push forward to go into the next phase,” said Mehedi Maruf, who scored the highest 244 runs from seven matches with the best of unbeaten 75.
“Our target is now to win the next matches we have. So, personal target is not focused more in this period,” Maruf told reporters after their pre-match day training session.
The right-handed batsman said that they are working hard on those areas, where they did their mistakes, so that they could not repeat the same mistakes reportedly.
“Batting first, we won the bulk of our matches at the initial stage. It may be bowlers that they were dependent on batting unit. And so bowling has not done in right way. Along with that, on one miss fielding willingly. We have toiled hard so that silly mistakes are not repeated,” Tangail-born lad said.
The 28-year-old said that he is now trying to carry on his performance that he missed in the last two matches.
“Of course, it is disappointing from my point of view. I carried on it at the initial matches but could not do it in the last two matches. Now I am trying so that I could get back my form and maintain its continuation,” Mehedi, who has dreams to play for the national team, said.
When asked about his batting approach, he said, “As per the situation of the team, I have to change my batting approach. I have to play to increase the strike rate. I have to take high risk to do that also. In these situations, I have lost my wickets.”
“Sometimes I felt uncomfortable to take high-risk. But the way I started playing if I can continue then the target would be fulfilled. It was my mistakes that I have taken all the risk on me not to rotate the strike,” he added.
On the other hand, Victorians opener Imrul Kayes said that they will try their best to win all the matches they have ahead of them.
“Our target is to try to win all the matches we have. We’ll try to win these matches by playing better cricket. We are not thinking much about our result whether we will go. We have five matches in hands. Anything can be happened in these five matches. If we could win all the matches then we could sail into the top from the bottom. Anything can be possible,” said Imrul Kayes.
