JESSORE: A court here on Wednesday awarded life-term imprisonment to a man for killing a woman 18 years ago in Jessore, reports BSS. Special and District Judge Nitai Chandra Saha pronounced the verdict. The convict was also fined Tk 20,000, in default, to suffer more two years in jail.
The convict is Nazmul Hasan Raju, son of Amin Uddin of Kandonpur village in Keshabpur upazila of the district. According to the prosecution, Rahima Khatun, wife of Azhar Uddin of the same village, was killed by Nazmul over a trivial matter on June 17 in 1998. After the incident, victim’s husband Azhar Uddin filed a murder case. Officer-in-charge (OC) of Keshabpur police Abu Bakar Siddique, also investigation officer of the case, after investigation submitted chargesheet to the court on September 14, 1999 against seven persons including Nazmul Hasan Raju.
