At least 10 activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) were injured as activists of the district unit of BCL and its Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) unit locked in a clash at Kewatkhali WAPDA intersection in the district town of Mymensingh on Tuesday night, reports UNB.
Locals said a group of activists of the district BCL unit torched the motorbike of BAU’s BCL president Morsheduzzaman Babu and carried out attack on a house on the campus. Following the incident, the two groups of the student body of the ruling party locked in a clash at Kewatkhali WAPDA intersection around 10pm, leaving 10 activists injured.
Officer-in-charge of Kotwali Model police station Kamrul Islam confirmed the incident, adding locals handed over three activists to police after the incident.
Critically injured five students were whisked off to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
However, the university authorities asked the students to vacate their dormitories by 10am yesterday. Additional policemen have been deployed on the campus to fend off further trouble.
