5 held with yaba pills, chemicals
Detectives in a drive arrested five people along with huge yaba tablets, equipment used for manufacturing the drug and huge chemicals from Mirpur area in the capital on Wednesday night.
The identities of the arrestees are yet to be known. Tipped off, a team of DB police raided the area and arrested them along with yaba tablets, yaba manufacturing equipment and chemicals in the night, said, Deputy Commissioner (media) of DMP Masudur Rahman.
Judicial confce on environ today
The two-day “South Asian Judicial Conference on Environment and Climate Change” begins today in the capital city for drawing a roadmap to help implement the environment laws in South Asian countries.
President M Abdul Hamid will inaugurate the two-day conference at Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel in the capital. Chief justices from different countries including India, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bhutan and Nepal will attend the conference, which will conclude on November 26. Senior judges from the supreme courts of different countries and ministers, diplomats and representatives from different international organizations, senior officials of different public and private agencies and experts on environment and climate change will also attend the conference.
View-sharing meeting held
Speakers at a view-sharing meeting with media personnel in Rajshahi yesterday underlined the need for infusing dynamism into objective journalism so that the country can achieve the SDGs through facing the existing challenges.
Referring to the enormous aspects of objective journalism towards taking forward the nation successfully they said the media should work together for depicting the successes so far achieved through maintaining ethics of journalism. The observations came in the meeting titled “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Special Initiatives, SDGs, National Integrity Strategy, Innovation and Citizen Charter” at Circuit House conference hall.
Victory Day programmes
The common people will observe Victory Day-2016 befittingly in Rangpur on December 16 next with a renewed pledge to build a ‘Sonar Bangla’ as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
According to official sources, the district administration, Rangpur City Corporation, Awami League (AL), other political parties, sociocultural and professional organisations, educational institutions and freedom fighters have taken programmes to observe the day. The observance will begin at zero hours after midnight on December 15 next with 31-gun salute and placing wreaths at Central Shaheed Minar and ‘Swadhinota Smritistambha Arjan’ to pay rich tributes to the martyred sons and daughters of the soils.
Useless ammo, explosives to be destroyed
The Central Ammunition Depot (CAD) will destroy useless ammunitions and explosives at its ground in Mawna area of Sreepur thana in Gazipur between November 29 and December 22, reports BSS.
The destruction of the explosives will be held from 7.00 am to 6.00 pm everyday. During the period the movement of general people and domestic animals has been prohibited around four kilometers surrounding the area, said an ISPR press release in the capital yesterday.
Chehlum of Ferdous Alam today
Chehlum of Ferdous Alam, a medistic psychotherapist and son of eminent educationist and psycotherapist Professor M.U. Ahmed, will be held today at his Dhamnondi residence in the capital, reports BSS.
All his relatives, friends and well wishers have been requested to attend the Milad Mahfil to be arranged on the
occasion and pray for his departed soul.
