Yunnan rolls out work permit scheme for foreigners

Recently, the Yunnan Provincial Administration of Foreign Experts issued the first work permit for foreigners to Dr. Richard Corlett, a British scientist working at the Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Starting in November, Yunnan began to implement a work permit pilot scheme for foreigners in China. Dr. Richard Thomas Corlett, an expert of the province’s “Thousand Talents Programme”, said he received the work permit three days after submitting his online application. He was very impressed with the convenience and efficiency brought about by the new policy.

In December 2015, Chinese central government integrated the original “Alien Employment License of the People’s Republic of China” and the“ Working Permit for Foreign Experts in China”. The result was titled “Working Permit for Foreigners in China”, and was implemented in 10 provinces across China, including Yunnan.
