Bangladesh shorter-formats skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza said that they all should take mental preparation for the upcoming year-ending away series against New Zealand not to think much about its wickets and conditions.
“There is no similarity between the games of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and New Zealand series. All the things especially wickets and condition are totally different,” said Mashrafe Bin Mortaza.
“For this the head coach, Chandika Hathurusinghe, arranged a conditioning camp consulting with Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and Cricket Australia (CA) so that we could prepare ourselves both mentally and physically ahead of the series,” Mortaza told media yesterday.
Keeping Shahriar Nafees, Rubel Hossain, Al Amin Hossain, Nasir Hossain out of the squad, Bangladesh meanwhile announced their 22-member squad for the conditioning camp in Australia and New Zealand series, where some of the best performers of BPL are not considered for the Down Under which drew criticism from the vested quarters.
Bangladesh are scheduled to leave Dhaka on December 9, just after the end of the ongoing BPL-4. Before flying for New Zealand, Bangladesh will hold a 10-day conditioning camp in Sydney, Australia. They will play two practice matches against Sydney Thunders and Sydney Sixers on December 14 and 16 respectively following some training sessions at pace-friendly wickets that are akin to New Zealand’s wickets and conditions.
Citing the names of Shahriar Nafees, Mehedi Maruf and Mosharraf Hossain, Mashrafe said that it would be possible to include some of them if the squad would not announce.
“Shahriar Nafees is a well performer in BPL. Some other players including Mehedi Maruf, Mosharraf Hossain are also performing well along with some youngsters,” the 32-year-old pacer said.
“But it would be possible to include some of them if the squad would not announce for the Australia-New Zealand tours,” the captain said while he was speaking at a health awareness programme on ‘Start early, change diabetes.’
The programme was arranged by Novo Nordisk, a global healthcare Danish company, who recently appointed Mashrafee as their brand ambassador.
It is learnt from the programme that around one lakh and 30 thousand people died last few years due to diabetes. Along with that, 71 lakh people in Bangladesh have been suffering from diabetes. Another 60 lakh are expected to affect in the next year. Even children are also being affected by diabetes.
“More than 2000 children have been sorted out by Novo Nordisk. They are helping the diabetes-affected poor and distressed people with insulin and financial assistance. It’s an encouraging initiative. I have just joined with Novo Nordisk and attended their two programmes,” said Mashrafee, who was flunked by Peter Ulvskjold, corporate vice president, business area South East Asia, Novo Nordisk managing director A Rajan Kumar.
In BPL, Mashrafe led Comilla Victorians, who are languishing at the bottom place of the points table with just one win from seven matches.
Although the defending champions have left five matches of the group phase they mathematically derailed from the competition following their shocking humiliation one after another if they could win the rest of the matches.
“You know we could not play our usual games in the initial five matches. Despite being in similar situation Chittagong Vikings finally revived their hopes by their victory at Chittagong phase. I’m sorry on behalf of our team. But we will not drop the games. We want to fight for the last moment. If we could win a match or matches it would be better for the players and franchisee,” the once pace spearhead of Bangladesh said.
