Those who are still out of the electoral roll can be registered as voters in Election Commission’s upazila and thana offices across the country between November 25 to December 15 next, reports UNB.
The Election Commission is going to conduct the 20-day data collection programme to update the country’s electoral roll which would be published in January 31, 2017.
But the programme will be of a limited scale as the Commission had collected data of possible voters of 2017 and 2018 in advance during the 2015 countrywide voter list updating programme.
“All those who will cross 18 by January 1, 2017 but still remain unlisted can register their names as possible voters of 2017,” EC Secretary Mohammad Abdullah said yesterday.
But enumerators will not go for door-to-door data collection either as the voter registration camps will not be set up at union level unlike the previous years, he told the news agency. Besides, the Commission will receive the data of those voters who have died and applications from the existing voters for shifting their voting addresses during the period, he said.
Field-level election officials have already been directed to complete the voter updating programme following its schedule.
The EC will publish the draft voter list on January 2, 2017 to receive and dispose of complaints over the update before finalising the voter list on January 31, 2017.
In the 2015 voter list updating programme, some 44.32 lakh people came out as fresh voters with 4.6 per cent growth rate.
