RMG workers protest extortion in Ctg

Hundreds of Readymade Garments (RMG) workers of two factories of the city’s Nasirabad area yesterday staged demonstration after blockading road for one and half hours.

The workers took to the street as worker named Razzak was assaulted by alleged extortionists yesterday morning.
They complained that some extortionists extort money from them while coming and returning from the factories. 
They also stalked the women workers on street while coming to factories. As they did not get any remedy after complaining it to the police repeatedly they forced to take to the street. 
The two factories owned by Frank Group ---Anawar Dress Makers Limited and Frank Apparels Limited of city’s Nasirabad area under Khulsi police station. “At around 9am some miscreants assaulted Razzak, floor in-charge of Anwara Dress Makers Limited for extortion. As the news spread, the agitated workers of the two factories came to street at 11am and block the road,” said Imtiaz Uddin Montu, managing director of Frank Group. 
He also alleged that they lodged complaints with police many times but police did not take any action.  However, denying the allegations, Md Abdul Warish, deputy police commissioner (DC) north said, “We did not get specific allegations against specific persons. 
As now the matter is being in boiling point, we must take action against stalkers and alleged extortionists.”  “We assured the workers from now they would not be disturbed then they lifted their blockade,” added Warish.
The agitated workers blockaded at Polytechnic circle of Nasirabad area. 
Due to blockade a long trail back was created and the commuters who visited the roads faced unspeakable sufferings till 12:30pm.
