Hold credible polls in NCC

President Abdul Hamid on Wednesday asked the Election Commission to take necessary steps to hold the Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) and Zila Parishad elections in a credible manner, reports UNB.
The President made the call when Chief Election Commissioner (CEC)  Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad met him at Bangaabhaban. President's Press secretary Joynal Abedin briefed reporters after the meeting. The CEC apprised the President of the Election Commission's preparation to hold elections to the NCC and 61 Zila Parishads.
The NCC election is scheduled to be held on December 22 while the Zila Parishad ones on December 28.
Rakibuddin Ahmad said the commission will take all-out efforts to  ensure security during the elections. The CEC also apprised the President of EC’s overall activities and sought his cooperation in discharging duties bestowed upon it.
Mentioning that construction of commission's 13-storey own building in Agargaon is nearing completion, the CEC invited the President to inaugurate it in the last week of December. Secretaries concerned to the President Office were present.
BSS adds: Ambassador of Spain to Bangladesh Eduardo de Laiglesia del Rosal made a farewell call on President Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban yesterday afternoon.
President Abdul Hamid thanked the ambassador for discharging his duties successfully in Bangladesh, President Press Secretary Joynal Abedin told BSS.
He expressed the hope that the existing bilateral relations between the two countries would be strengthened further that would put a positive impact on trade and investment.
The president said there are scopes for Spanish investment in Bangladesh and asked the entrepreneurs of Spain to invest here for mutual benefits of the two countries.
Eduardo de Laiglesia del Rosal expressed his gratitude for extending cooperation in discharging his duties in Bangladesh. Secretaries concerned to the President were present.
