About 5,000 students of 28 government primary schools in Shariatpur are failing to draw their stipends as those institutions do not have any teacher appointed from the government pool of assistant teachers, reports UNB.
Official records show that not a single teacher has been appointed in 28 government primary schools since their inception in the 2012-13 fiscal.
Some guardians of the students, Mostafa Sarder, Jahirul Islam, Helal Hossian Chowdhury and Nur Alam Gazi, complained that their children have not received the stipends yet.
Sagar, an honours 2nd year student of Munshiganj Harganga College, has been working as a voluntary teacher at Mobarak Dewan Memorial Government School in Bhedarganj upazila.
He said he has been teaching there to help the underprivileged students of remote shoal areas and many local college students do the same.
District Primary Education Officer Abul Kalam Azad said though four teaching posts have been created for each of the government primary schools, no teacher has so far been appointed to the 28 schools mentioned above.
That is why the distribution of stipends to the students has remained undecided, he added.
