A Jhenidah court yesterday sent 13 accused of a case filed for stalking two girls and grievously injuring their father in Kaliganj upazila to jail after they surrendered before the court yesterday morning.
Judicial Magistrate Qazi Ashrafuzzaman passed the order rejecting their bail petitions.
Earlier on Tuesday, the High Court issued a directive on a suo moto move asking police to arrest the perpetrators in 72 hours. The High Court issued the directive following reports published in different national dailies. The HC also ordered the authorities concerned to submit the progress report in this regard by November 27.
According to the report, Kamal and his cohorts beat up Shahanur Biswas, father of two girls, with iron rods and hammers and broke his both legs at Nalvanga village Kastovanga union in Kaliganj upazila on October 17, as he had protested the stalking on his school going daughters. Shahanur’s elder brother filed a case against 16 persons with Kaliganj Police Station.
Shahanur is undergoing treatment at National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation in Dhaka where his legs were amputated from knees.
Police held three accused from different places of the district on Tuesday evening and yesterday morning.
Kamal, prime accused of the case is the general secretary of Kastovanga union unit Juba League, the youth front of ruling Awami League.
