Rangpur Riders’ Pakistani all-rounder Shahid Afridi made a personal record to enter into the 250-wicket club in T20 cricket history yesterday.
Afridi made the record as the seventh bowler after Dwayne Bravo (West Indies), Lasith Malinga (Sri Lanka), Yesir Arafat (Pakistan), Alfonso Thomas (South Africa), Saeed Ajmal (Pakistan), Azhar Mahmood (Pakistan), Dirk Nannes (Australia).
Before the match against Khulna Titans, Afridi had 249 T20 wickets in his kitty. He entered into the 250-wicket T20 Club when he sent Titans skipper Mahmudullah Riyad back to the pavilion. The spin all-rounder finished his figure in the match with 2-30 in his four-over quota.
The right-handed spinner snapped up 18 wickets from 13 BPL matches so far with the best figures of 4-12. But overall he showcased his best T20 figures with 5-7. This dexterous all-rounder so far played 230 matches, including 98 T20Is for Pakistan national Cricket team, at different clubs and teams across the world after making his T20 international debut in 2004.
He meanwhile played for Dhaka, Rangpur Riders, Sylhet Super Stars in BPL, Deccan Chargers in IPL, Peshawar Zalmi in PSL, Melbourne Renegades in Australian Big Bash, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in CPL, Ruhuna Royals in SLPL, Northamptonshire and Kent in English County Cricket along with other domestic T20 cricket at home and abroad. West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo claimed the highest numbers of 353 wickets from 336 outings. He was followed by Lasith Malinga (299 off 221), Yesir Arafat (281 off 226), Alfonso (263 off 225), Saeed Ajmal (260 off 183), Azhar Mahmood (258 off 230) and Dirk Nannes (257 off 215) and Shahid Afridi (250 off 230). Bangladesh ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan closely followed Afridi with 247 wickets that he grabbed from 216-match road string.
