Khulna Titans skipper Mahmudullah Riyad expressed his concern about their shaky top-order, stating that they are waiting for a good flow, which could bring their confidence back to go through the tournament ahead.
“We are worried as we are gradually going through the tournament. We are very much concerned about our top-order batting performance. We made changes in top-order several times but that didn’t work so well,” said Mahmudullah Riyad, who single-handedly turned the table for Titans in last-over thriller in two occasions.
“But we are still hopeful if we could get a good flow just from one match, the confidence of the top-order batsmen will then be better,” Riyad told media at the post-match briefing.
Titans were also doing better at Chittagong phase following a couple of nail-biting victory in Dhaka. But resolute Rangpur Riders shattered their high hopes of carrying on their hard-earned winning streak and finishing the second phase on top did not allow Khulna Titans.
Giving credits to bowlers of the opponent side, the captain said that they missed to execute their plan properly against Riders, who placed them on top to topple Khulna Titans by winning their second phase-ending match.
“Spin was not difficult to play for. Wicket was very good but we didn’t apply ourselves properly. I think we should be more aggressive because the first six- over is very crucial. The wicket we got at least 160 was possible to make on that,” the 30-year-old Khulna skipper said.
“I think my first talk about wicket that was very good. Secondly, they have bowled really well. We couldn’t apply our wisdom properly,” as he said they should have addressed a specific bowler or make a gap for run or runs what they didn’t do accurately.
Khulna was humiliated shockingly by Rangpur Riders in their first meet. They failed to take their revenge in their second clash also. But Riyad said that they wanted to handle their opposition taking the lesson from the last match.
“That was in our back off mind because I told all after that match not to forget the bitter memory of making the lowest total against them in our first meet. It would be better to recall we could then be learnt from that. If we forget it we could then be repeated the same mistakes,” the middle-order batsman said.
“If we could make 140 or more our bowlers would then get a defendable score. Our bowlers are bowling well. Now if we could make better our batting unit the team combination will then be better,” he also said.
Citing the names of Andre Fletcher, Riki Wessels, Abdul Majid and Hasan(uzzaman), the right-handed all-rounder said that they will sparkle and contribute for the team in the next matches of the tournament.
“We have a good number of hitters. Andre Fletcher is very good hitter. Riki Wessels could hit better also. Abdul Majid probably was the good scorer of the last two years. He batted well in Premier League. Unfortunately, he could not click. Hasan also made a good start in some matches but could not carry on it. Hopefully all will be okayed,” the right hander said.
When asked about Kevon Cooper, Titans captain gave his explanation in this way that Kevon Cooper was given rest due to his pain in ankle.
After the end of the Chittagong phase, Mahmudullah rates his team as better and said that they will be placed well if they could win 2 or 3 of the rest matches of the group phase.
