Judicial conference on climate from Feb 25
Bangladesh is all set to host “South Asian Judicial Conference on Environment and Climate Change” on February 25, 26, 2017, with Chief Justices from different countries including India, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bhutan and Nepal are scheduled to attend the function.
“President M Abdul Hamid will inaugurate the two-day conference at Radisson Blue Water Garden Hotel in the capital. Bangladesh is going to host the prestigious conference for the first time, which will be organised jointly by Bangladesh Supreme Court and Asian Development Bank,” said Md Sabbir Faiz, additional registrar (administration and judicial) of the High Court Division.
US embassy closed Nov 24
The US Embassy in Dhaka, including the Consular Section and the American Centre with the Archer K. Blood American Centre Library and the Education USA Student Advising Center, will remain closed on November 24 in observance of Thanksgiving Day, an American national holiday.
However, the emergency services for American citizens will be available, an US Embassy press release said here today.
Views exchange meeting held
Human rights activists and leaders of different organisations working for welfare of the physically challenged people have stressed the need for legal assistance to the disabled people for ensuring justice for them.
They expressed the views at a meeting organised by District Protibondhi Legal Aid Committee (DPLAC) at its office in Rangpur city on Monday to further strengthen activities of the committee.
Rangdhanu Zila Protibondhi Adhikar Sangstha (RZPAS) and Prottyasha Protibondhi Nari O Shishu Unnayan Sangstha (PPNSUS) assisted in arranging the meeting participated by members of DPLAC and different organisations working for welfare of disabled people.
ADD International and Manusher Janno Foundation extended financial support in arranging the meeting with President of DPLAC Advocate MA Basher Tipu in the chair.
Police-public communal harmony rally held
A communal harmony rally and gathering was held at Barisal city on Monday calling to eradicate the terrorism and militancy from the country and building unity among the peace lover patriotic people and police. To mark the programme a gathering was held. It was Kotwali Model thana police with DC south of BMP Md. Golam Rauf Khan in the chair.
Commissioner of Barisal metropolitan police Md. Nurul Amin addressed and inaugurated the programme attending as the chief guest. The programme addressed among others by President of Barisal Sangkritik Sangathan Sammonoy Parishad SM Iqbal, president of Barisal Press Club Kazi Nasir Uddin Babul, President of Barisal Club Kazi Mofizul Islam, secretary of city unit Awami Legur AKM Jahangir, Mohiuddin Manik ( Bir Prothik), and religious leaders of Muslim, Hindu, Christian community.
Reception to award winning naval Freedom Fighters
Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Nizamuddin Ahmad on Monday hosted a reception for 21 award winning freedom fighters of naval forces and their heirs on the occasion of the Armed Forces Day-2016.
The naval chief handed over crests to the award-winning freedom fighters and their heirs formally at Shagorika Hall at Naval Headquarters in capital’s Banani. Family members of Bir Shrestha Shaheed Ruhul Amin, five Bir Uttams, seven Bir Bikrams and eight Bir Pratiks joined the reception, an ISPR press release said. The naval chief exchanged pleasantries’ with the guests and thanked them for joining the reception. Senior officials of the naval forces were present.
