The High Court yesterday directed the director general of the Department of Immigration and Passport to give in seven days a Machine Readable Passport (MRP) to BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
After concluding hearing on a petition filed by Rizvi, the HC bench comprising Justice Quamrul Islam Siddique and Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif passed the order.
The Department Of Immigration and Passport has been asked to issue the MRP for Rizvi in seven days after receiving the copy of the HC order.
On December 10 last year, Rizvi filed an application with the DIP seeking an MRP. The passport was supposed to be issued on December 31 last year.
On May 29, Rizvi filed the writ petition with the High Court as he did not get the passport even in five months after filing the application. Advocate Joynul Abedin stood for the BNP leader in court.
