A freedom fighter reportedly committed suicide at a hotel at Topkhana Road in the capital yesterday, reports UNB.
The freedom fighter was identified as Aiyub Khan, 62, former commander of Satkania upazila Muktojoddha Sangshad of Chittagong.
Sources at the DMCH said Aiyub took poison inside his hotel room. It was discovered as the hotel manager informed Shahbagh police station that he was not responding to staff calling on his door.
A team of Shahbagh police station led by SI Abdullah Al Mamun went to ‘Hotel Karnapholi’ atTopkhana Road at about 10am and after breaking the door down, found him alive still.
He was rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital, but succumbed around 10:55 am to the poinson’s effects, said SI Mamun.
