One held with firearms
OUR CORRESPONDENT, Chapainawabganj

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested an illegal arms trader along with one foreign pistol, one magazine and six rounds of bullets from Kalinagar village in Shibganj upazila on Saturday. The arrestee was identified as Anwar, 19, a resident of Tikri Battala of the upazila. Being tipped-off that a group of people were staying in the area for selling arms, a team of the elite force conducted a drive there at about 11.15am. Later, the elite force members arrested Anwar while his associates managed to flee the scene.


Schoolboy ‘commits suicide’
Jhenidah: A schoolboy reportedly committed suicide by taking pesticide at Bahirgachi village in Kaliganj upazila on Saturday, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Milon Hossain, 12, a class VII student Bahirgachi Secondary School and son of Badrul Mia of the area. Officer-in-charge of Kaliganj Police Station Aminul Islam said Milon was scolded by his mother for not going to school.  Later, Milon took pesticide as his mother went out of the house around 12 pm. As his mother returned home, she found the boy unconscious and rushed him to Kaliganj
Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.


Criminal held in Jamalpur
OUR CORRESPONDENT, Jamalpur

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive arrested a man along with a revolver in Dewanagnj upazila yesterday afternoon.
The arrested person was identified as M Akram Hossain, 40, of Sheikhpara village in the upazila. Acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB-14 of Jamalpur, led by company commander Hayatul Islam Khan conducted a raid in Pollakandi Bridge Bazar area and arrested Akram with a revolver. Akram was wanted in six cases, said he.


Mayor sent to jail
OUR CORRESPONDENT, Chapainawabganj

The mayor of Chapainawabganj municipality has been sent to the district jail. Court ordered into jail the mayor and ameer of the district unit of Jamaat-e-Islami Nazrul Islam after he surrendered before the court on Wednesday. Nazrul Islam was accused in a case filed on August 2 under Explosive Substances Act. He was also an accused in 16 other cases. Officer-in-Charge Sadar Model Police Station Mazharul Islam said he surrendered before the court and the court sent him to jail custody.
