APBN �attack� on people condemned

Leaders and activists of Khulna city and ward unit Awami League (AL) at a human chain yesterday strongly condemned and demanded immediate withdrawal and exemplary punishment of Commandant of Armed Police Battalion (APBN) Harun-ur-Rashid and other policemen responsible for recent attack on commoners and leaders and activists of Khanjahan Ali thana unit AL.
They organised the human chain programme in front of Picture Palace Cinema Hall crossing in the city. A rally was oragnised marking the programme. It was presided over by AL Khulna sadar thana unit president Advocate Md Saiful Islam. Among others, AL Khanjahan Ali thana unit president Rezwan Ahmed, central Krishak League leader Shyamol Singho Roy, sadar thana general secretary Fakir Saiful Islam, were spoke in the rally. The speakers called for formation of a committee to investigate into the incident at the soonest.
Earlier, on July 4 and July 5, APBN members ‘charged baton’ on Azizur Rahman Moral and local people over centering construction of a house on a disputed land in front of APBN headquarters at Shiromoni of Khulna city which left at least 15 persons including two photo journalists, six local AL leaders and activists were injured. Azizur Rahman claimed that he legally purchased the land from Khulna Development Authority (KDA).
KMP Commissioner Nibash Chandra Majhi while admitting to some excesses done by APBN forces said that enquiry into these two incidents is going on.
